About the project

Missing is a joint project between College of the North Atlantic’s journalism program and the St. John’s Telegram. CNA journalism student Kyle Greenham and Telegram reporter Glen Whiffen travelled to St. Anthony to look into the disappearances of four people over the last 15 years. During two rain-soaked days, the pair spoke to people about the feeling in the remote community perched on the tip of the Great Northern Peninsula. While many would talk, few would give their names. Whether the four were victims of foul play or went missing, the community is on edge and wants answers.

Our hope is that by publishing the stories of the missing that someone somewhere might recall a small, seemingly insignificant piece of the puzzle and help bring closure to a family and a community. Should you be that someone, we urge you to contact your local detachment of the RCMP or Crime Stoppers.

We would like to thank the Telegram’s Steve Bartlett and Glenn Whiffen for their unwavering support and contribution to this project. We would also like to thank the mayor of St. Anthony, Ernest Simms, for supporting the project. But mostly, we would like to thank the people of St. Anthony and those who were willing to talk. We understand and appreciate that the memories we asked them to recall are painful ones.

While the RCMP had originally committed to being part of this project, they did not respond to further requests.
